Inlays/Onlays Service
Inlays and onlays used to repair extensive tooth damage, and are a valuable tool in a dentist’s treatment arsenal. An inlay/onlay, also known as a partial crown, uses your tooth’s natural structure to repair tooth damage and decay. The process reinforces a damaged tooth and returns your tooth to its natural shape and to prevent additional complications. With inlays, a specialized dental lab will create a restoration from a mold of your original tooth.
Dentists use inlays when a tooth’s cusps are still intact, placing it directly over the tooth. Inlays are a great option for extensive damage or decay.
With both inlays and onlays, any decay is first removed before adding the inlay/onlay. Locally-administered anesthetic prevents discomfort during the procedure. Patients have multiple options for the inlay/onlay material, including porcelain, composite resin, and gold. Because inlays require specialty work in a lab, there is a 2-3 weeks turnaround, requiring a temporary inlay or onlay in the meantime. Once we receive the restoration from the lab, our team will install it in your mouth and set it in place with sealant. Once your inlay/onlay is finished, no one will be able to tell the difference between it and your natural teeth!
